Where I Come From

Well, for the past week or so I’ve been wondering what should I post about and then I realized that I should tell you a little more about me. From my about page you all know that I wasn’t born in Turks and Caicos but that I was born in Florida, when I tell most people that they automatically think that my family is from America, but I actually have no American heritage whatsoever.

My whole family is from Turks and Caicos with the exception of a great-great grandmother from Dominican Republic. To be specific, my family is from four little islands in this country: Middle Caicos, South Caicos, Grand Turk and Salt Cay.

I consider myself to be more of a “Grand Turk Girl” since both my parents are from there and I visit it about every 3 months. If there is ever a time that I say I’m going back home that means I’m returning to Grand Turk.

However, I’ve always had an issue explaining to people where I come from ever since I was little. Before, I’d resort to saying that I’m from Grand Turk, but am I born there? No. Have I ever lived there? Nope. It can be a little confusing, especially because I don’t consider myself to be from Providenciales despite living here for all of my 15 years.

As I got older I realized that I’m pretty much from the Caribbean and that I just so happened to enter this world in the US of A. So I guess that makes me a West Indian-American Girl.

Where are you from?
